Frances Hill has an MSc in Development Studies from the University of Bath and has worked with academics, NGOs, policy makers and country level practitioners in development for 20 years specialising in communicating different messages to different audiences for the greatest impact to effect beneficial change. show more
More specifically, she has done this through:
• Coordinating the Secretariat of the Development Studies Association since 2004 and helping to organise their Annual Conferences, as well as other high profile policy fora.
• Writing successful proposals to institutional donors for NGOs that have resulted in funding over £8 million worth of projects.
• Synthesising academic research into bite sized chunks for busy policy makers and practitioners to absorb.
• Researching multilateral and bilateral donor programme priorities.
Frances particularly enjoys breaking down barriers between 'silos' and constituencies, to bring people together and stimulating synaptic breakthrough, sparking new methods, ideas and solutions.
Pippa Gray played a major part in the Overseas Development Institute’s communication’s successes for over 10 years (1995-2007).

Responsibilities included:
• editorial content of webpages, quality control, design, layout, production. In 2007, the website attracted an average of over 300,000 visits a month and with 187,700 downloads per month.
• writing and layout out of monthly e-newsletter (received by about 15,000) which provided an update on the work of the Institute – events, blogs, news and research – and included links to key publications and meeting summaries with audio.
• copy-editing, layout, design and production of books, papers and promotional material (yearly: 1 annual report, 10 leaflets, 15 briefings, 3 pop-up banners) aimed at a wide range of audiences such as policy makers, MPs, students, academics, journalists).
• graphic manipulation, sourcing photos for print and web.
• responsible for print buying and contracting designers.
Pippa is now enjoying freelance work for the international development community whilst working part-time close to home for the local grammar school providing help and advice on various communication tools.
Louise Rands Silva has many years’ experience organising events from the international to the local level.

Having spent several years working in Brazil, she joined the the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD), then based at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. As a programme assistant for ten years, she worked with academics, policy-makers, NGOs and students, organising workshops, fundraising events and conferences. For example, she helped to organise a 3-day high-level meeting on international law and sustainable development at Windsor Castle. She studied on the Open University Long Associate course in Third World Development and holds an MA in Area Studies from the Institute of Latin American Studies, London University. In 2001 she moved to North Devon to bring up her children and joined the local Sure Start programme as a Parent Forum worker. Whilst there she liaised with local government, public service professionals and the local community to improve outcomes for young children and their families.
Louise thrives on bringing together people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds to help forge stronger relationships and effective communication.
Selina Fox has twenty years’ experience in delivering communications programmes that tackle complex social and developmental issues.

She has held senior positions in the arts and international development sectors as well as a commercial PR agency. As Head of Communications for VSO she oversaw the initiation, development and funding of multi-media campaigns and has held non-executive positions for IBT (International Broadcast Trust) and 3WE (Third World and Environment lobbying group).
Selina now freelances and works for a wide range of organisations including ESRC, LSE and other charitable and public institutions.
